Ok, whats the fastest slinger sold today? the new wrist-rocket pro
chrono's at about 225fps.My home made rig can do 270fps,some guy in a
paint ball forum says his hunting slingshot shoots over 400fps
*cough*bullshlt*cough* i'd just like to see 300fps or better.

Well that would depend on weight of what you are shooting. Just like
with airguns where few will shoot to the rated fps with a real field
capable pellet.

I did not run them over the chronograph but did some testing recently
when I ended up with a batch of poorly cast .50 cal round balls. I was
very impressed with the penetration in cardboard filled with newspaper.
Cut open a couple of #1 and 00 buck shells and while I am sure the
velocity was higher it was pretty clear the .50 rb's packed much more
punch. The .50's are what I am going to stick with and not worry about
velocity.

On your homemade what did you use for the bands? Replace the "surgical
tubing" on my chepo Academy Surplus model with the same brand factory
tube / sling but was thinking about experimenting with different lengths
and tubing.

My best results have been with thera-band rehab/exercise tubing and I
just began some testing with pure gum rubber which comes in flat
sheets that I cut tapered bands from,so far the pure gum rubber seems
to have the fastest recovery time. more to come.....
